The Woman | Jan Van der Loo

A worthy representative of Belgian Surrealism, Jan Van der Loo (Boechout, Belgium 1908 – 1978) was a classically trained artist. He studied at the Royal Academy of Antwerp and the Hoger Institution, receiving distinctions such as the Godecharles Prize (1933) and several international Surrealist awards.
Her work, present in five museums, evolved from an initial figurative style towards symbolic and dreamlike compositions marked by a harmony where the female figure merges with natural and architectural elements in metaphorical landscapes.

In La Femme, Van der Loo represents the mystical dimension: the woman elevated to an archetype of goddess, mediator between the visible and the interior.
