He is an artist working as a sculptor, working with clay, stone, and wood. In 1972, he began working with plaster casts, both small and life-size, always focusing on the human figure.
From the outset, he was compared to the American George Segal, one of the most important "pop" figurative sculptors of the 20th century, with whom Anglès maintained personal contact in Gaudífond. The whiteness of the human sculptures, made of plaster and strips of paper, and the life-size scale of most of them are some of the points of convergence between the two. For Anglès, the human figure taken to its extreme was paradoxical. His sculptures are irreverent, detailed, and delirious in their
expressions and postures as in the use of real elements that complement them such as furniture, musical instruments or eyeglass frames - especially when he molds entire groups like "La Cobla", present in the Dalí Museum of Figueres.
Francesc Anglès is to sculpture what collage is to painting. Going far beyond the impersonality and coldness of Pop Art, his sculptures convey
A real atmosphere and a human warmth. They seem alive, as if they are about to move or are already in motion, and it's easy to feel a touch of affection for these solitary figures, like modern man, often endearing, composed of half-blind old men or grandmothers.
