Hovhannes Semerdjian (1920-2013), internationally known as Jean Jansem, was a prominent French-Armenian painter and one of the great figures of 20th-century figurative painting. Born in Bursa (present-day Turkey) and trained in Paris, he developed a deeply expressive pictorial language, characterized by elongated figures, intense emotional charge, and a palette of great subtlety. In recognition of his artistic career, he received the Legion of Honor in France. Throughout his career, he exhibited in cities such as Paris, Tokyo, New York, Chicago, London, Rome, Brussels, Lausanne, and Beirut, consolidating his international prestige. His works are part of important public and private collections, as well as museums in France, Japan, and the United States.
