Josep Maria Subirachs ┃ Contemporary Work

Josep Maria Subirachs (Barcelona, 1927–2014) was one of the most renowned Spanish sculptors in contemporary art. A multifaceted artist, influenced by Julio González, Subirachs worked in sculpture, drawing, painting, engraving, set design, and art criticism.

His work evolved from a Mediterranean and expressionist phase towards abstract and new figuration styles, characterized by geometric shapes, angular lines, and rough textures. His personal style combines symbolism, spirituality, and philosophical reflection. He is particularly known for his sculptural intervention on the Passion Façade of the Sagrada Familia, one of the most emblematic sculptural ensembles in 20th-century public art in Spain. His work can be found in museums, private collections, and public spaces worldwide.
