Collection: Sixte Blasco ┃ Expressionist painting and contemporary abstraction

Sixte Blasco i Brugueras (Barcelona, 1926 – 1996) was a Catalan painter and draughtsman with an extensive international career, associated with 20th-century figurative painting, expressionism, and abstraction. His work is characterized by strong emotional intensity, the expressive use of color, and a constant exploration between figuration and abstraction.

Trained in the post-war Spanish art scene, he held his first exhibition in 1946 in Zaragoza and subsequently developed an international career with shows in cities such as Barcelona, Geneva, Milan, New York, Düsseldorf, and Tunis, establishing himself as an artist of European renown.

His pictorial language evolved towards a synthesis between expressionist gesture and abstract construction, using painterly matter as a vehicle for visual and emotional tension. This duality between the figurative and the abstract defines much of his artistic output.
