In The Tree of Life, Gervasio Gallardo articulates a scene with biblical resonances where the landscape becomes a new Eden. The fertile and silent garden harks back to a primordial space, while the suspended tree—uprooted from the earth—introduces a tension between the natural and the transcendent. The rope can be read as a metaphor for the serpent, a symbol of temptation and hidden knowledge.
The solitary, luminous, and almost sacred fruit evokes the forbidden fruit, a breaking point between innocence and consciousness. The cotton-like forms enveloping the treetop suggest a celestial dimension, reinforcing the connection between heaven and earth. In line with Surrealism, Gallardo does not illustrate the myth: he reinterprets it, inviting the viewer to reconstruct its meaning between the symbolic and the intimate.
