In Los amantes (The Lovers), Josep Maria Rovira-Brull unfolds one of the most characteristic visual universes of his surrealist and neo-symbolist period. A ghostly locomotive traverses a dreamlike landscape populated by skeletons, lush vegetation, and references to life and death, while two figures merge in a scene charged with mystery and poetry. With iconography rich in symbolism and a narrative open to multiple interpretations, the work reflects Rovira-Brull's ability to transform reality into an allegory of the human condition, love, and the passage of time. His imaginary, both critical and poetic, places him among the most unique voices of Catalan surrealism in the second half of the 20th century.
