Collection: Joan Josep Tharrats ┃ Abstract painting

Joan Josep Tharrats (1918 - 2001) was one of the great figures of 20th-century Catalan abstract painting and a key figure in the Spanish post-war avant-garde. Co-founder of the Dau al Set group alongside artists such as Joan Brossa, Modesto Cuixart, and Antoni Tàpies, he developed a unique pictorial language based on experimentation, material, and color.

His work evolved from post-impressionist influences towards a lyrical and material abstraction, characterized by dynamic compositions, rich textures, and an expressive use of color. Tharrats explored innovative techniques such as “maculatures,” where chance and pictorial matter become the protagonists of the work.

His production includes painting, engraving, and graphic work, and is present in important collections and museums, consolidating him as an essential figure in contemporary Spanish art.
