Presentation
The history of Sala Gaudí begins in Barcelona in October 1971, when the gallery was inaugurated by Salvador Dalí and Gabriel García Márquez. From its inception, the project was conceived as a space dedicated to promoting dialogue between art, culture, and contemporary thought. The art critic Carlos Areán then defined Sala Gaudí as:
"the first gallery in Spain to coordinate a wide range of cultural activities aimed at fostering better human coexistence".
For over thirty years, Sala Gaudí presented exhibitions by some of the most influential artists of modern art, including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró, Max Ernst, Hans Hartung, Man Ray, and Henri Matisse. In parallel, the space hosted conferences, concerts, and literary gatherings with prominent figures of international culture such as Mario Vargas Llosa, Rafael Alberti, Julio Cortázar, and Gabriel García Márquez.
This dialogue between visual arts, literature, and thought made the gallery one of the most active cultural spaces of its time.
Gaudifond today
Over five decades, the gallery has amassed a collection of more than 5,000 works, many of which have been presented in exhibitions and international fairs in Europe, the United States, and Japan. The collection is particularly notable for its representation of Spanish and Latin American modern art, a central pillar of the gallery's artistic identity.
After three generations dedicated to the art world, the project has evolved into Gaudifond, a gallery that combines tradition with a contemporary vision. Today, Gaudifond, with locations in Barcelona and Zaragoza, operates primarily as an online gallery, offering international access to a selection of its collection and facilitating direct contact with collectors and institutions. The gallery develops exhibition projects, provides advice for private collections, and maintains collaborations with other galleries, foundations, and cultural entities.
Gaudifond's objective remains the same since 1971: to bring modern and contemporary art to new generations of collectors and art lovers worldwide.
